Creative Writing

I’m looking for a good graduate school for Creative Writing. I plan to choose screenwriting as my focus of study with a cross study in either Poetry or Fiction (although all three of these choices could easily be switched around). I’ve looked into some cool schools in California that are ungodly expensive (among them CalArts and UCR). I’m in Indiana and my parents are not very approving about the idea of graduate school due to costs but they ain the boss of me. Ha!

Anyway know any good Creative Writing grad schools ANYWHERE in the U.S.?

Also, has anyone ever done the UCR Palm Desert Grad Program (either Traditional or Low Residency) for Creative Writing and what was it like?

Such as publishing fiction, short stories, poetry, opinions, blogs, etc.?

How do you learn about poetry and composition when your school isn’t big enough or won’t fund such classes?

I love to write creative things such as poetry and short stories, but I don’t know what I would be able to do with the creative writing degree.

Besides an author or poet, what can I do with a creative writing degree?
