What is the value of a MA or an MFA in Creative Writing?

I would like to pursue a graduate degree in Creative Writing but am wondering what your opinion is as far as it’s marketable value. I would be doing it partially for my own benefit as well, but I’d like to know if any of you view a Master’s degree as a good career move for an aspiring creative non-fiction writer.
Is it possible to get a a PhD or MFA in a minor?

I’m a junior, thinking about college and I’ve got two ideas in mind, completely unrelated.
I was hoping I could do a duel major in both Creative Writing and Forensic Psychology, but if I majored in one, and minored in another, could I get my PhD and MFA in both?
Thanks.
Does a person have to get an MFA in order to get a PhD in Creative Writing?

I have a Master’s degree in English Literature and now want to pursue a PhD in Creative Writing. Is there anything special that will help me stand out as a PhD candidate? Anything special I need to do?
Thanks.
Does anyone know of a good Graduate Program in Creative Writing? In Southern California?

I want to do an MFA in Creative Writing but not ridiculously priced (sorry USC). If there is an option of partial on-campus, partial online even better. Personal experience also a plus. Thanks
What is the best way for me to learn to write Opera/Oratorio librettos?

I don’t want/need to obtain a MFA in creative writing for this endeavor. How could I get contemporary composers to set my librettos? (This 2nd Q S/B a separate Yahoo Q&A Q.).
Serious answers please.
Should my boyfriend and I move to Boston or San Francisco?

Some details about our situation:
1. We’re originally from the South and have lived in Chicago for two winters and don’t wanna deal with another winter here. We would move within the next six months.
2. We have two cats.
3. We don’t need more than one bedroom.
4. We’re both liberal arts types in our mid-20s, with mostly writing, non-profit and administrative backgrounds.
5. We are starting a non-profit literary magazine, and will be pursuing funding wherever we end up moving.
6. I want to eventually go to grad school to get my MFA in creative writing, and he wants to pursue his Masters in either English or social work.
7. We don’t have a car, and probably won’t be able to afford one for quite a while.
8. He has several friends in Boston and a sister in San Francisco. I know hardly anyone in either city.

What are you doing with your undergrad degree in Writing or English?

I have a B.S. in Writing and I’m someone’s assistant. =(
I’m considering Grad school, but worry that if I get an MFA or an MA in the same area I’ll be in the same boat, but two years older. Does anyone else feel this way?
Is the MFA in Creative Writing a good idea?

I live near two good programs, but I’m uncertain about what utility the degree itself has. Is it a good idea in general to attend these programs, especially if you might be interested in genre fiction?
If I already have an MFA, should I get a PhD?

I want to teach creative writing at the college level. PhD necessary or not — opinions please!
