How do i get a job teaching creative writing?

I want to work the occasional evening teaching creative writing in a community college or something like that…. already got a few ideas of how to go about this but wouldn’t mind a few more.

First of all, do you have the credentials for the job? Are you planning to teach college credit or community education courses? Check out what is already offered at the community college you are interested in. Then, contact both the Lang and Lit department, community education department and human resources.
Well, you need either an advanced degree or some professional experience as a writer. Community Colleges are - most of the time - accredited, so they are not going to hire “Joe Schmoe” who has no credentials.
Definitely get published too. Never hurts to have your name in print, even if it is some crazy magazine with a publication of 100.
Good luck!
Most colleges will not let you teach any class with just a BA in the field. A lot of people who teach at community colleges in the area of creative writing hold and MFA (Master of Fine Arts). However, if you have simply a BA in English or something of that sort, along with a Masters in Education some community colleges may let you teach depending upon experience.
As far as four year schools, most don’t let anyone without a PhD teach unless they are a doctorate student.
If you do not possess any of these degrees, but have some experience as a writing tutor, perhaps you should look into teaching for a private company offering such workshops. Another not so easy way to gain the credentials for teaching a class of this type is to get some of your creative works published.
In any case, do some more research and it all depends on what kind of credentials you have or are willing to obtain.
Good luck.
I have several friends who teach creative writing at colleges and universities. What do they have in common?
They have award winning books.
